Pahiyangala, also known as Fa-Hien Cave after the Chinese Buddhist monk who visited in the 5th century AD, is one of the most significant prehistoric sites. This natural cavern in the Bulathsinhala Eco Tourism Belt contains evidence of human habitation dating back more than 36,000 years, making it one of the earliest settlements. Archaeological excavations have uncovered ancient human remains, primitive tools and evidence of early cultural practices that tell a compelling story of Sri Lanka’s prehistory.
